Miyamoto Saburo (1905-1974) steeped himself in Western art from the classical era to the 20th century, and made the most of what he learned in his work. A European-style painter working in oil, Miyamoto’s profound sympathy and admiration for Western painting and culture pervades his entire career. Centering on works dating from Miyamoto’s two stays in Europe, this exhibition examines elements of Western painting in the artist’s work and subsequent developments in his practice.
