Taiji Kiyokawa: The Era of White and Lines

Overview

The painter Taiji Kiyokawa (1919-2000) delved deep within himself and explored free expressions without any regard for the shapes of things. The 1970s and ’80s can be seen as a ground-breaking era in Kiyokawa’s career. During this period, he searched for new approaches and highly simplified pictorial elements, creating numerous works using thin lines on white canvases. Taiji’s compositional beauty is a special pleasure.
