Mukai’s works include depictions of highways lined with thatched folk dwellings, roads with sunlight filtering through the trees, and rain-drenched inn towns. In the course of painting thatched folk dwellings throughout Japan, Mukai Junkichi visited numerous highways and inn towns that were layered in history. In this exhibition, centering on the folk dwellings and highways that connect people’s lives in Mukai’s pictures, we introduce a large sampling of works imbued with a traveling mood.
